In US news and current events today, this man claimed responsibility for taking down the Utah monolith. He says he & his friends did it to protect the environment. Andy Lewis, an extreme-sports YouTuber, posted a video that seems to indicate he and a group of friends took down the now-infamous monolith that was found in the middle of a Utah desert. The monolith had originally been discovered days earlier by Utah state officials. It immediately became a viral news story due to its mysterious nature. Lewis & others waited until the cover of darkness to knock over the structure and dismantle it. In a group statement, he and his team say they took it down because too many people were trying to find it, leading to harmful consequences for the surrounding area. Prior to the monolith being removed, at least one amateur adventurer, David Surber, was able to find it and document his efforts.
