South African President Cyril Ramaphosa criticized countries that imposed travel restrictions on several nations in Southern Africa following the spread of the Omicron variant on November 28.
Ramaphosa said the travel bans are ‘completely unjustified and unfairly discriminate against [South Africa] and [their] Southern African sister countries.’ He claims the travel bans would not help stop the spread of the new COVID-19 variant and only harm the South African economy and people’s livelihoods.
Ramaphosa called for countries—including the U.S., UK, EU members, Canada, Japan, Australia, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates—to reverse their travel restrictions.
