BIDEN RALLIES IN GEORGIA AS VOTERS SURGE TO POLLS: President-elect Joe Biden heads to Georgia after turning the state blue for the first time in a presidential election since 1992. He joins Democratic Senate candidates Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock in Atlanta for a campaign rally, urging voters to head to the polls for the Georgia runoff elections. The balance of power in the Senate rests on the fate of these two runoff elections—if both Democrats win, the Senate will face a 50-50 split, with VP-elect Kamala Harris casting tie-breaking votes. As a result, Democrats would hold a razor-thin majority and unseat Mitch McConnell as leader.
Early in-person voting started in the state yesterday and there is already record-breaking turnout. The Georgia Sec. of State reported that more than 482,000 ballots have been cast, either in-person or via mail. Election Day is January 5th. If you are registered to vote in Georgia and want to vote by mail, the deadline to request your ballot is January 1, and your completed ballot must be received by January 5.
