White House press secretary Jen Psaki holds a press briefing. Moments ago, Joe Biden offered brief remarks on healthcare access in America before signing two executive actions. The first reopened the HealthCare.gov insurance markets—opening enrollment for those who lost their jobs and therefore their healthcare during the pandemic—and called for federal agencies to examine the ACA standards put in place by the Trump administration, like a work requirement for Medicaid recipients. The second reversed the global gag rule that blocks federal funding to organizations that perform abortion services. While sitting behind the Resolute Desk, Biden told reporters that he wasn’t ‘initiating any new law or any new aspect of the law,’ but rather ‘going back to what the situation was prior to [former Pres. Trump’s] executive orders.’
Psaki is likely to also comment on the Biden administration’s plan to address the volatility in the stock market, as multiple investing companies—like Robinhood and TD Ameritrade—have restricted their users from trading certain stocks like GameStop or AMC Theatres. Multiple Democrats in Congress, including Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Ro Khanna (D-CA), have called for full investigations into these financial company’s decisions.
